A plus Training, Practice & Testing

So you want to get the CompTIA A+ certification. You will need to pass two exams both the A+ 220-801 Hardware and the 220-802 Software. As seen in the A+ exam objectives you have a lot of ground to cover. Here are the prerequisite as stated in the CompTIA published A+ exam objectives:

1

The CompTIA A+ examination measures the competencies deemed necessary for an entry-level IT support technician with the equivalent knowledge of at least 12 months of hands-on experience in the lab and/or field. To be successful at the A+ exam, candidates will have the required knowledge to assemble components based on user requirements and specifications, install, configure and maintain devices, PCs and software for end users. A basic understanding of virtualization, desktop imaging, and deployment is also in the objectives. Additionally they will need to understand the basics of networking and both security and forensics as they will need to understand how to properly and safely diagnose, fix and document typical hardware and software issues all the while applying best practice troubleshooting procedures. Finally the successful candidate will also have the ability to provide appropriate professional customer support.

CertBlaster
The CertBlaster products for the CompTIA exams is our new confidence-building online learning tool that adapts to your learning needs.

Classroom Training
If you are new to PC support then you will need classroom training to provide you with the best preparation experience possible. For those of you who prefer to study for the exam in a classroom environment this will be the solution. If not, then another alternative is self-study.

Self-study
There are a lot of books and online study options that cover the main CompTIA exams. One of our favorite ones is free and provided by Professor Messer.

Practice test
Our self-paced, interactive A+ practice test products offer a great training solution if you have the right prerequisite i.e. a working knowledge of the A+ exam objectives. If you do not have that go back up and read the training sections above. If you do have the prerequisite knowledge then CertBlaster will allow you to study for you’re A+ certification online anywhere, anytime.

Understanding the Basics of SEO – Park City SEO

  • August 12, 2015August 12, 2015
  • by

SEO is simply described as understanding the way search engines think and work. The purpose of SEO or search engine optimization isn’t to undermine or cheat search engines, but to communicate to them your intentions so they can recommend your website for relevant searches. Local SEO Park City companies make it their first priority to understand the ways of Google, Bing, and other popular search engines. Here are some things to consider when optimizing your site and other social properties.

The first thing you need to ask yourself is what are search engines looking for and what aren’t they? Search engines work by referring Internet users to websites and content that is the most relevant to what they are searching for. How then, does a search engine determine what is relevant? Search engines look at content, performance of a site, a site’s authority, as well as the user’s experience navigating a site. All of these things play into how well your site will appear in a search and are what search engines look for.content

  • What is content?

Content is simply the text on a page, it also includes descriptions, titles, and        other media.

  • What is performance?

Performance relating to search SEO, is how fast and well your site works.     Does it  perform accurately and efficiently?

  • What is Authority?

Search engines look at the content of your page and authority refers to how other authoritative sites refer and link back to      your site and vice versa. Does your site provide good enough content to link to other authoritative sites as well?

  • What is User Experience and Navigation?Online-User-Experience-03

This can be easily explained if you think about your own experience when you visit a site.  What are some of your first                   impressions when seeing a site? Some things you might think about are how the site looks. As you start browsing the site, you     might question the ease at which you can find things. Does the site look safe? These are the same things search engines look       for  in a user’s experience and they ask the same questions.

Ok… now what are some things search engines skip over or things they overlook? Key word stuffing should be avoided and buying links that lead nowhere isn’t recommended. When you overuse keywords on your pages it actually harms you rather than help and is referred to as, ‘Keyword Stuffing’.  You also want your users to have a good experience on your page. Having too many ads and placing content in awkward places will increase your bounce rate, which is not good. Knowing and tracing your bounce rate will help you determine how to keep it at reasonable rate.

SEO also extends onto any social sites you have, for example…Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, Youtube etc. Keyword strategy is important to implement on social media sites and email as well. This is often called multi-channel optimization and will help your company’s brand.  It’s also important to be consistent with your keywords and phrases within all platforms, don’t alternate or use different variations that will confuse search engines.Popular Social Networks

SEO goes far beyond what we’ve discussed, but following these few rules will help you site rank higher and increase search engine’s relevant results. Check your local listings for search engine optimization Park City Utah and you will be able to find local specialists who know how to better optimize your online marketing needs.

A+ Certification Practice Test – Tips to Know About…

  • August 5, 2015February 6, 2019
  • by

CompTIA’s A+ Practice Test Certification takes strong passwords very seriously. So seriously, in fact, that it falls under not one but two exam objectives. This is pretty rare and shows how seriously this is taken. There is a really good reason for this. Studies show that the most prevalent security breach relates to passwords. As in week passwords. Did you know that 28% of security breaches are password related and that the two most common passwords are password1 and 123456? So it clearly does make a lot of sense for CompTIA to make sure that anyone possessing the A+ Certification credential is well versed in this potential threat to system security.

The strong password issue is handled in the A+ 220-802 (Software) exam in Main Domain 2.0 Security. The two sub-objectives it falls under are 2.1 and 2.3:

2.1 “Apply and use common prevention methods”

2.3 “Implement security best practices to secure a workstation”

Under sub-objective 2.1 it shows as topic point “User authentication/strong passwords” and under sub-objective 2.1 it shows as topic point “Setting strong passwords”. Under either of both you are likely to get a question relating to strong passwords. When we say “strong password” we are not formulating an opinion but addressing a definition as per the A+ exam. However the definition is also widely accepted in the computer industry. So what are the elements of the definition of “strong passwords”?1

They should be no less than 8 characters but no more than 15 (the longer the password the more secure it is but extremely long passwords will put too high a burden on support by users not remembering them).  As you can see above it’s not a good idea to “password” or any easy number sequence such as 123456. Another common one is birthdate, really easy to crack in ways too many situations. You should also ban:

  • Any words you can find in the dictionary
  • Names to anyone close to you (spouse, kids, pets etc.)
  • Yours or any other license plate number
  • Any of the above spelled backwards or with either a leading or a trailing number

An important part of the strong password is diversity of characters. The best strong password will combine alphabetic characters (capitalized and lower case), numbers and special characters. Special characters are the symbols you find on your keyboard, such as $ * ^ # @ etc.

Examples of how to come up with a strong password that is easy to remember:

Use the first address you remember living at “Apartment was on 5061 State Street. Rent was $800 monthly.” You then turn that into a password by using the first digits of each word which would make your password: Awo5061ss.Rw$8m

This password fulfills all the requirements of a strong password: It is 15 characters long, includes capitalization and lower case as well as numbers and special characters. This would be considered a very strong password (being at the maximum of 15 characters) but could still be reasonable easy to remember.

You could apply this method to a variety of items and come up with strong passwords you won’t easily forget. Another maybe easier way to generate them is to use Diceware.Social media buttons

As important as strong passwords are to the A+ exam this is only a small part of it (the exam objectives document is 44 pages long!) so there is still a lot more to master. A good way to get an idea of what the exam is like is to use practice tests. CertBlaster offers a comprehensive package covering A+ Practice test in a bundle of both the A+ 220-801 (Hardware) and A+ 220-802 (Software) exams.

6 Types of Free Gifts that Can Get you…

  • June 5, 2015June 5, 2015
  • by

Free-gift-for-response-1Free gifts, who doesn’t like them? “Leading with value” is a catchphrase and business core value – where business (both small and large) desire to give to their clients and customers by providing value even before they purchase from the.   You can see this in action at a Best Buy tech desk, where you can go in and ask a question about an electronic that you have and they’ll freely give you as much information as they can. From there sometimes they can fix the problem on the spot free of charge. What a great way to get people to both come into the store and to interact with your personnel.

It’s much the same way online. You can easily give away “free” value to help people see more of what you have to offer as well as insight into an area they are in need of more information. Everything from how-tos all the way to where-tos (Places to visit) to tips   Here’s a list of 6 items that you can give away to add value and gain trust and following.

  1. EBooks – One of the earliest online items for people to be able to buy, eBooks offer something that most people are already acquainted with as well as something that has become even more accessible with the availability of tablets to the masses on which they can be reading these books. It can be even more powerful If it’s something you normally sell on your website or elsewhere, then the visitor feels a lot of incentive to get the free item.
  2. Software – The barrier to entry used to be so high for software. Now you can often easily and cheaply build plug-ins, apps, online tools, downloadable tools, if you use the right tool or have the right connections. In addition you can purchase private label rights software that you can utilize to add value to your customers.Free-gift-for-response-2
  3. Reports – Have some time on your side? A report is just a short eBook that is more focused on solving one problem, instead of an overall “how to” like a book would be. If you can do the leg work and the research work, the report could be an ideal offering of a smaller portion of what you have. It can also be more niche specific to target new verticals that you may want to bring into your funnel. You can also produce a report from software – similar to a FREE SEO report from an SEO agency in Salt Lake City.
  4. Coupons – This one is a stead standby. People do love being able to get a deal and what better way than by getting it right from you. While you may want to watch out for discount seekers, as they may not make good long-term customers, you can still benefit greatly by reducing the barrier for people to try out your service or product by using a coupon. Don’t misuse the coupon though. Be sure that you have a strong follow-up plan in place to build a relationship with those that use the coupon. Sites like Groupon and Living Social were raving successes because people love coupons, but most businesses who offer deals there have done poorly at building a relationship with those that bought a coupon for their business.
  5. Videos – Offering a video lesson or videos of a live event as a freebie is a great way to repurpose videos that you’ve made. Just load them up to deliver to the people who sign up for your list. People love video and YouTube is continuing to be one of the leading search engines in the world over all. You can choose to deliver the video after sign-up or offer free podcasts or videos to build a relationship before purchase and give even more reason for them to sign-up, whether it’s to get additional videos, further insights, or just to be mailed links by which to watch the next video.
  6. Checklists – Checklists are so simple and yet, many people crave them. Why? Because there is so much information out there, we need someone to take it back to its basics again and a checklist is a great way to do that. The top 10, 5, or whatever number you choose will often be great intro information, however, if you want to make a bigger impact, get a little crazier and go for 50 or 100.

Utilize the ideas above to bring in even more people to your funnel. Use them to bridge the gap of trust and value and show potential clients and customers the value you provide. As you can see, there are so many different ways to go about this, that you can really decide which one fits best for you and your potential customers.

How to Make Your Site Mobile Friendly

  • May 4, 2015
  • by

responsive-wordpress-websiteIn recent posts, we’ve talked about the upcoming Mobilegeddon (which is already upon us) and how to determine if your site is SEO friendly or not. Today we’re going to give a couple of resources to look at if your site comes back as not SEO friendly. With most things, there’s an easy way and a hard way.

Too note, there are several ways by which you can make your site mobile friendly – the two main styles are making it responsive (creating a fluid like design that responds to the display/media type) and making it adaptive (creating several different designs with specific sizing for different designs). That discussion of which is better can be left for you to choose. Hear, we’ll largely be talking about responsive solutions.

Easy Way – WordPress

While some may debate whether WordPress is the best platform or not to host your site on, we have to say that from personal experience we strongly agree. Having worked with several different CMS platforms as well as several different types of static sites, WordPress continually appears as one the easiest to implement and use and yet one of the most dependable and powerful. You can do everything from host a simple blog to turn it into a robust eCommerce site. WordPress is also so easy to update and add further capabilities to – such as easy social sharing, list building, SEO compatibility, and even mobile responsiveness.

Yes, in many sites, mobile friendliness can be attained simply by adding a mobile plug-in. With a little bit of work to make it look good and unique, your site could be mobile friendly very quickly and can often be done by even a novice to web design with a WordPress plug-in. Some of the most common WordPress Plug-ins for making a site mobile friendly are:

  • Jetpack by WordPress.com
  • WPtouch Mobile Plugin
  • WP Mobile Detector
  • WordPress Mobile Pack 2.0

responsivewebdesignHard Way – Any Other Way Than a Plug-in (Via WordPress)!

Yes, for novices, any other way than a plug-in or a simple line of code will be harder to implement, but doesn’t make it any less important or needed on sites outside of WordPress (or other comparable CMS platforms with mobile plug-ins or extensions.) A great place to start here is to look again to our favorite search leader Google. Google actually has a pretty thorough explanation of creating mobile friendly websites as well as some of the common pitfalls mobile friendly coding can create for search engines. Very nice of them to give us such insight into the design and implementation. They have a solid section of mobile information at https://developers.google.com/webmasters/mobile-sites/get-started/?hl=en.

In addition, another great resource in helping you understand mobile design experience even further is https://www.edx.org/course/building-mobile-experiences-mitx-21w-789x. That mobile course is offered by MIT for free through edX. However, this is not really an easy to get going course for newbies, but is great for developers or intermediate coders.

For novices, we can’t help but recommend simply using the WordPress platform and implementing one of their plug-ins to make your website SEO friendly. If you want to keep your current platform or straight code, then the Google and MIT resources are great to help you understand the most important elements and even a little deeper. With that being said, the importance of simply partnering with an agency to cannot be understated. Use their skills to help make the process so much easier and more pleasurable for yourself as well knowing that the design is done in the best way for both your rankings and your users. Check out Barking Frog SEOs mobile website design capabilities as well as their solid local search engine optimization abilities if you’re looking for an agency that can truly get you the rankings you deserve and ensure that your site is mobile friendly.

Optimizing Video For Mobile

  • May 1, 2015
  • by

responsive-website-designWith all the stats out there, hopefully you’ve already realized the importance of having a mobile presence. According to Mobile SEO Pros, over 48% of mobile users watch video and according to Business Insider over 15% of all online video hours are viewed on mobile devices. With that information and the fact that more people are accessing the internet via mobile phones than desktop computers, it’s vital to be able to display your information, products, and services properly on mobile devices. Think about that, quite possibly, over half the people searching for you are trying to do so on a mobile device. We’ve been talking about the importance of mobile optimization in regards to search engines and how to make sure your website is mobile friendly. One of those segments that need to be mobile friendly, especially if you want to get a response from your traffic -those that come and view the video, is that it needs to be properly optimized for mobile devices.

video-optimzed-for-mobile-2

Mobile Video Musts

Start with Mobile In Mind

Begin your entire video production service with mobile in mind. This can change or influence parts of the video creation – such as having text within the video too small that you won’t be able to see it on a mobile screen or items within the video that may be important but would also be hard to see on a smaller screen. Maryland based video production company Blue House Productions helps clients with the right from the planning stages. Taking time to determine the goals of the video as well as the outputs can not only save you a lot of trouble when you distribute your video, but can also make for an even more powerful response from viewers on multiple devices when everyone can clearly see the video, any text that’s in it, and easily follow a call to action no matter where they’re accessing the video from. It’s up to you whether you want to create one video that will be optimize for all viewing devices, or if you want to create a slightly different video for mobile experience. We’ll discuss this further as to how you can make your mobile version display for mobile play, but it is during the production time of the video that you want to determine if you need to make a second video style.

Create a Version Optimized for Mobile Viewing

In addition to the possibility of creating a different version of the video itself. You do want to make sure you create a version of the file that will play well on mobile devices. This will usually be in the form of an mp4 for shorter films (under 4 minutes) and utilizing Apple’s HTTP Live Streaming codex for longer films so that it automatically responds to the clients bandwidth capacity and creates a smoother playing experience. Both YouTube and Netflix utilize this for their longer videos.

Make Your Video Pages Responsive

Now, if you’re hosting your video on a video hosting site, such as YouTube, you don’t have a lot of say about this. However, you do need to still think about the different layout that will occur when in mobile. For instance, with YouTube, it’s much hard for a person to see the description of a video (as opposed to clicking the dropdown on a desktop). Therefore you’ll want to make sure there is a call to action in the video and not just a link in the description. In addition to being sure that is present, you’ll want to make sure that your mobile optimized video, if showing on your site, sits on a mobile optimized page. You need to be sure that mobile viewers see a trimmed down version of the page so they don’t get overwhelmed with extra images or test and are rather driven directly to the video.

Calls To Actionvideo-optimized-for-mobile

As mentioned above, you want to make sure that your video includes calls to action for the viewer, but you also need to make sure they are accessible on a mobile device. You also want to make sure that they aren’t stuck merely at the end of the video. Many watchers do not watch through the entire video until the end, so having your CTA exist outside of your video may be an ideal alternative. Just be sure that in doing so, you optimize the area for mobile – making it responsive to their display size and viewable on their screen.

It doesn’t necessarily take a lot of work to optimize a video for mobile devices, but it does take some planning. Remember that planning ahead can save you a ton of additional corrective work in the future as well as give you a head start out of the gate. Take advantage of optimizing at the foundational level and you’ll often get leaps ahead of your competition.

How To Make Sure Your Site Is Mobile-Friendly

  • April 28, 2015April 28, 2015
  • by

Mobile Friendly ComparisonSo, Mobilegeddon has come and gone and it appears the world as we know it is still standing. However, have you checked your mobile rankings? How are they doing? Has your site continued to rank well even with the change in the mobile ranking algorithm or did you get hit because your site is not mobile-friendly? Well, if you’re not sure, this is the insight we had promised in an earlier post – how to make sure your site is mobile friendly.

Google’s Rules – Use Google’s Tools

Google has seen the increase of mobile usage and search and has realized for some time that many website are not optimized to display on mobile devices properly. In a effort to provide the best results to their users. Since it is Google that has made a “Google-god” choice in changing the algorithms, it’s probably best to utilize their methods of determining if a site is mobile-friendly or not. Thankfully they have given such tools.

For individual URLs – their method by which you can check individual pages for their mobile-friendliness is a helpful URL checker at https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/mobile-friendly/. This method allows you just check one URL at a time and allows you to check any URL that you would like – whether you have control of the site or not. For the result it gives you a screenshot of how Google is seeing it in “mobile” form and can be very helpful for you to see this if you have not seen your site in its mobile version before. They also give bullet point issues that need to be corrected such as the text and images not changing size to fit into a mobile presentation effectively. In addition, you can also use this method to do a little competitive research if you don’t have another means by which to see the mobile version of a page. Put your competitors URL in the test and see what their screenshot looks like. This may also help you determine the format that you would like your mobile version of the page in as well.

For site wide adherence check, Google recommends you simply add your site to Google Webmaster Tools and then check their mobile usability report. This tests your entire site for mobile friendliness and can be helpful in uncovering possible areas of your website that don’t have the correct coding or responsiveness to bring mobile users to a mobile version of the page. This is also helpful if you are trying to rank in Google as it gives you a lot of insight into how Google crawls your site and if there are any other issues they are having difficulty with on your site. Google Webmaster Tools is a useful platform for any website owner -regardless of whether you are trying to determine your mobile friendliness or figure out when and how Google crawls your site.

There you have it. The best way to determine your sites mobile friendliness is by checking out how Google sees it. Thankfully they have provided easy to use tools to determine if changes are necessary and what they are. How to make those changes, that will be in an upcoming blog!

Mobile Prophecy?

  • April 3, 2015April 3, 2015
  • by

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pd9MIMdmZHk

As they often do, Google gives hints before it turns the search world upside down. The above video is from Bloomberg Business and is an interview with Jason Spero, at that time head of global mobile sales and strategies at Google Inc. The thing that strikes me so interesting about the video is that it is from 2012. For those that may be in the dark, Google has publicly announced that they are bringing about a kind of “Mobilegeddon” come April 21st of this year (2015). This is catching many people off-guard as they do not have their websites Mobile optimized and responsive and will therefore bring about the wrath of Google. But the video above demonstrates Google’s emphasis on mobile a hardy three years ago. We shouldn’t be caught off-guard when Google starts to say – “Hey, this is important…”. But none-the-less, one still needs to determine if their website is ready for the mobile changes, and to take a step back, what are the mobile changes.

Mobile Changes Coming to Google April 21st

Google has seen the increase of mobile usage and search and has realized for some time that many website are not optimized to display on mobile devices properly. In a effort to provide the best results to their users. Google has made a “Google-god” choice. It is going to change the algorithm of mobile search to include an expanded use of mobile-friendliness ranking signals. They state that ” This change will affect mobile searches in all languages worldwide and will have a significant impact in our search results. “. This is huge. Google is actually telling us that search results are going to be significantly impacted. And for those that don’t know, often times, Google kind of sneaks these changes in, but this one apparently will make such an impact and be so important that they did want to tell the world.

So what does all of this mean? Google realizes that in order for people on mobile devices to have the best user experience, they need to able to find search results that will appear and perform correctly on their mobile device. For those that don’t know, often times pages are either scaled down to a very tiny version of themselves or worse yet, often broken when viewed on mobile devices. Either experience is less than ideal in Google’s eyes and therefore they’ve called for webmasters to get it right or get out of the rankings for mobile!

What To Do To Get Mobile Ready

In an upcoming episode, we’ll be looking at the specific changes that need to be made and the tools to be able to check if your site is mobile optimized. But for now, this is a fair warning to webmasters everywhere. Even though it’s three years in the making – Be Prepared For Mobilegeddon (dunt, dunt, dunt – you can so hear the scary music in the background). If you want to take the safe and honestly more efficient method than trying to figure it out on your own, hire an agency that specializes in helping local business with SEO and mobile marketing. How to Animal Proof Your Website

  • March 24, 2015
  • by

Panda-proof“Animal proof?” you ask. Yes, animal proof, in particular panda, penguin, and pigeon although we’re sure more. What are we referring to by naming pandas, penguins, and pigeons? None other than the almighty Google’s algorithm changes. While each change effects different aspects of the web and search, all of the changes are focused on done with the same intent. To improve the quality of results and reduce spam. Google’s focus since their inception is to organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful. Therefore they are constantly trying to figure out how to do that more effectively and efficiently. One of the reasons that they have to work so hard is because so many people are trying to “game” the system and thus the reason that many sites were hurt by the updates. Outside of technical errors, which Google has had, most of the search results changes have been in an effort to control or eliminate spam and provide better quality results. Here-in we can put together an animal proof plan for continuing to grow and market your website. Think of it like a coin – heads and tails, but they both part of the same coin.

penguin-proof1. Heads – Content is still King

Unique and useful content is still the king of the internet. People are looking for it and Google wants to serve it up. The problem sometimes arises that we have different meanings of useful and unique content or trouble figuring out how to create it. For instance, many stores sell the same item and yet Google can’t just provide a list of stores and say you choose. They want to try to organize the information to help you make the best choice with the best information. Therefore they can’t simply provide results that all say the same thing. They need information that is unique. Those stores which take the time to make their information more unique than others will often find it being crawled and indexed more relevantly than those whose content is left as the manufacturers description only. Here’s 4 rules of thumb to keep in mind for content.

  • Unique. Don’t just use the same description everyone else uses – or the same information that you give to your sales reps or affiliates. Create content that is unique to your site. Don’t be afraid to include your personality or experiences within the content as those are parts of what make you unique.
  • Staleness. Nothings worse than opening the bag of potato chips and going to take your first bite and finding out the kids had left them open and now their stale. Google feels the same way…. at least about content. They don’t want to serve content to a user that is outdated and doesn’t contain fresh information. They want to see you actively adding relevant content to keep things fresh and to prove that you are continuing to provide up-to-date information for their users.
  • Focus. It never ceases to amaze me when non-writers go to put together some information. It’s usually just ambiguous information without a clear cut focus or it is all “corporate speak” and doesn’t pertain to the needs of users. Just because you know your industry jargon for instance, does not mean that your potential client does. We need to create content based on what the user is looking for. In addition, content needs to be created in a focused direction, which should cover topics, keywords, or lists that the user would be looking for. Now don’t go keywords stuffing your articles or creating spammy content, but do take the time to actually look at what people are searching for and then include that within your content.
  • Great Content. Engage, entertain, and educate. Keep those three rules in mind when you create your content and you will fast be on the path to creating great content that both the user and the search engines will love. Don’t make the content all about you, but rather make it all about reaching “them”.

pigeon-proof2. Tails – Authority (links)

Yes, Google wants great content to serve up but they also want it to be correct content. The way that they determine the authority of the content is still largely based on the links that you have. Think about it, if you have something that is really beneficial to people (like great content) they’re going to be more like to tell each other about it – hence the links. And of course if you can get a brand or noted authority to tell someone else about it, it is valued even higher. Hence why .gov and .edu links tend to carry more weight. They are from more highly trusted resources in Google’s eyes. Of course Google has worked hard to determine what links look good and what don’t but here’s 3 rules to keep in mind when thinking about links.

  • Natural. You need both the link and your link portfolio to appear natural. Therefore you wouldn’t have all the links coming back to your site using keywords as anchor text, nor would you want them all using “click here”. A proper balance of your URL, business name and keywords should be used when possible. You can even include your geography, for instance, a phrase like Utah SEO, would bring in both the location you serve and the type of service you offer.
  • Lead with Value. Give people something to link back to. Provide a valuable resource, tool, or report. Something that takes some time and effort and can provide great value to another person – but give it away for free!
  • Bad Neighbors. Nobody enjoys bad neighbors and neither will your rankings. Take the time to look at the links that you have and make sure they’re from good neighborhoods. 3 Steps Towards Using Panda To Your Advantage

pandaPanda is a Google algorithm that is designed to filter out pages with weak content from any given SERP. The most recent Panda update occurred in September 2014, and hit thin content pages hard. Even huge e-commerce sites like E-bay suffered due to their minimal product descriptions. E-bay is a huge site right? You would think they know better! The thing is, people who post on E-bay are rarely webmaster or professional SEO Salt Lake City companies. Even if you are not at the professional level, there is no reason why you shouldn’t use the Panda algorithm to your advantage. To do this, follow the 3 simple steps below.

Generate Awesome Content

By awesome, we mean new, original, and perhaps…jazzy page content that provides a great read for any user. Even if you are talking about plumbing fixtures, there is absolutely no good reason not to make your content engaging, friendly and attractive. This means good use of headline tags, white space, links, text formats  and lists. So far, the rule of thumb for good content has been 1,500 words. Go ahead and push it up. Write as much as you can. The more valuable information you provide, the better. Do not, I repeat do  not copy and paste content or use spun content. Algorithms are getting smarted with every update, so do it right the first time!

Structure Your Website Nicely

Since advertising has begun back with the invention of the printing press, marketers have referred to the “above the fold” concept. This essentially means you want to place your worthwhile and most important content higher up on the page. What this means for SEO is a direct conflict with fancy website design. These days, people are really excited about huge, image focused home pages, with sliders that push your actual website content way down the page. While this may grab the attention of your human user, a web crawler will not be very excited about ranking your page highly. Of course, we are trying to focus on the user more than robots, so there is a way to please both! Infuse your huge header images with alt text, headlines, and make them clickable! Also, keep your menu high up on the page.

Use Video

If you aren’t a video making genius, that’s ok! Just record yourself reading whatever is on your page if you don’t have any other good ideas. Hey, we aren’t all creative artists right? Optimizing your video is a great way to create an interactive web page, keep users on your page longer, and it keeps you current with trending website tactics. Additionally, if you keep your videos cached on YouTube or Vimeo or some other such site, you are automatically utilizing a social networking aspect of SEO.
